Bangladeshi jailed in Brunei for illegal stay

A 41-year-old Bangladeshi was sentenced to seven months imprisonment and three strokes of the cane by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to remaining in this country unlawfully for 771 days.

The defendant Nepal Kunti Das admitted his overstaying from August 31, 2003 to October 10 this year after the expiry of his Special Pass, according to a report by Bruneidirect.com.

He was arrested three days ago by the Immigration personnel at a rented house in Kampong Jerudong.
