Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong University (CU) unit will enforce an indefinite strike at the university from today demanding unconditional release of its leader Zahidul Islam Jewel arrested on Wednesday night.

Jewel, assistant science and technology secretary of the BCL Chittagong University unit, was arrested at his Chawk Bazar residence in the city following a case filed by the university unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on March 22.

The JCD filed the case against six BCL men, including Jewel, for their alleged involvement in the attack on the JCD men in Chittagong Shopping Complex area on March 21.

Earlier, the BCL leaders had given a 24-hour deadline to the university authorities to take initiative to release Jewel. The deadline ended yesterday.

"We will continue the strike until our demand is met," said CU BCL General Secretary Mohammed Ershad Hossain.
