Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) yesterday blamed the government for directly patronising Islamist militancy in the country.

Addressing a rally Mahi B Chowdhury, organising secretary of BDB, alleged that Advocate Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, deputy minister of land, is one of the direct patronisers of militancy who had kept Bangla Bhai in his house.

The rally was organised by BDB at its Head Office in the city to protest Thursday's bomb blast in Netrakona that left eight people dead and many more injured.

"The country is virtually heading towards a civil war and in this situation a free and fair election is in no way possible," Mahi said.

He said the government also doesn't want a fair election and that's why it is patronising militancy."

Mahi said the general people did not accept the new formula of the state minister for home involving a Hindu in militancy.

He urged all political parties to be involved in dialogue to overcome the recent panicky situation in the country.

Presided over by BDB city unit President Major General (Retd) MA Halim, the rally was also addressed by its Joint General Secretary Feroz M Hasan, Office Secretary Major (Retd) Sheikh Nadir Ahmed, Publicity Secretary Shah Alam Badal, Jubodhara Central Committee Convenor ATM Kamal and Advocate Sabera Begum.

Later a procession was brought out from the party office that paraded different city streets.
