Begum Rokeya Day today

The day marks the birth anniversary of Begum Rokeya, a pioneer of women's rights in the subcontinent.
In a message, Awami League President and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Sheikh Hasina recollected the contribution of Begum Rokeya to the advancement of women.
Hasina urged all to build up resistance against repression on women by being inspired with the ideals of Begum Rokeya.
Karmojibi Nari, a women's organisation, celebrated the Rokeya Festival at the Engineers' Institute in the city yesterday to mark the 143rd birth anniversary of Begum Rokeya.
The programme included rally and exhibition of photographs, posters and books.
Speakers at the inaugural function said the militants are destroying our achievements of liberation war through their brutal bombings and to save the country we have to launch agitation unitedly against the militants.
National Professor Kabir Chowdhury, President of Dhaka University Teachers' Association Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Prof Latifa Akhand, President of Bangladesh Women's Entrepreneurs Association Nasrin Awal Mintu, and women's leaders Hena Das, Shirin Akhter, and Rokeya Rafiq were present at the inaugural function.
Our Rangpur Correspondent reports that the Rangpur district administration has taken up a three-day programme to celebrate Begum Rokeya Day at Payerabond under Mithapukur upazila in the district.
The programme includes placing of wreaths at the memorial plaque of Begum Rokeya, milad mahfil, and discussion at Payerabond Begum Rockeya College ground.
Students of four women's halls of Rajshahi University yesterday took out a procession and held a rally in front of Munnujan hall to celebrate Begum Rokeya Day.
