BNP-AL clash in N'ganj: 20 injured

At least 20 people were injured in a clash between the supporters of BNP and the Awami League over a bid to cut down a tree in Araihazar upazila under Narayanganj district on Monday evening.

Of the injured, five were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition while eight others were sent to Upazila Health Complex.

The clash erupted after Monir, son of Motaleb, a BNP supporter, tried to cut down a tree belonging to Zakir, a supporter of AL, in Eidbardi Kazipara area in the afternoon, sources said.

When Zakir and his fellows resisted Monir and his associates, they were locked in a scuffle.

Later, Monir and his group launched an attack on their rivals, leading to a clash between the two groups. Both the groups used sharp weapons.

The critically injured are Faruk Bhuiyan, 40, Awal Master, 45, Amir Bhuiyan, 38, Zakir Bhuiyan, 35, and Manzur, 30.

However, no cases were filed as of yesterday evening.
