BNP does not believe in politicisation

"BNP never believes in politicisation or favouritism in country's development activities and always tries to ensure uniform development to make all parts of the country developed," he said.

He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of a newly constructed building of Sadar Duckbungalow Market-cum-Community Centre here.

The complex was built by Rangpur Zila Parishad at a cost of Tk 2.85 crore.

Mannan Bhuiyan, also the secretary general of BNP, said the political goal of BNP is to ensure welfare of the people.

As a result, he said, whenever BNP comes to power, massive developments take place in all sectors.

Presided over by Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur M Nazrul Islam Khan, the function was addressed, among others, by Minister-in-Charge of Rangpur and State Minister for Housing and Public Works Alamgir Kabir, MP, president of Rangpur district BNP Alhaj Rahim Uddin Bharsha, general secretary Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and chief executive officer of Rangpur Zila Parishad Saleha Khatun as special guests.

Mannan Bhuiyan said the BNP-led present four-party alliance government headed by Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has completed huge development programmes in all sectors throughout the country during the past four years.

The main aim of the government is to cut poverty and tremendous successes have been achieved in this sector, he added.

"Economic activities have been spreading faster in the rural Bangladesh bringing self-reliance to the poor people. Standard of life is improving fast everywhere," he said.

As a result of proper initiatives, the government has achieved tremendous successes in the field of sanitation in rural areas during the past one and a half years, he said.

"We had only 33 percent average sanitation coverage one and a half years ago. Now the figure stands at 64 percent. We are now much above the Asian average in the field of sanitation," he added.

Criticising the propaganda being carried out by some political leaders abroad with a view to defaming the country and its people, Mannan Bhuiyan said Rangpur is not at all a neglected or backward area.

"The life style of the people of greater Rangpur has been changed significantly following massive development activities conducted by the present government during the past four years and the days are not far away that the area will have no poverty at all in near future," he said.

The LGRD minister said the foreign countries and leaders highly appreciated the successes achieved by Bangladesh in disaster management and they expressed their keen interest to help Bangladesh improve the standard of life of its people.

"The vested quarters never mention these unprecedented success stories abroad instead of making propaganda to defame the nation," he said.

Mannan Bhuiyan urged the people to re-elect the BNP-led alliance in the next elections to maintain continuity of the development process to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh.
