The ruling BNP will finalise its nominations for nine vacant seats reserved for women in the Jatiya Sangsad today.

More than 50 women leaders of BNP have been lobbying to get the nominations.

According to the election schedule announced by the Election Commission (EC), the date for submission of nomination papers is September 25 and the date for withdrawal of nominations is September 29. The elections will be held on October 4.

The nine reserved women's seats allocated to the Awami League remained vacant as the party did not nominate any candidate for the seats.

In the first phase of the elections, 30 candidates from BNP, three from Jamaat, two from Jatiya Party and one from BJP were elected unopposed as there were no other contestants.

The aspirant women leaders who failed to get nomination for the 30 seats allocated to the BNP have started lobbying again to get nomination for the nine vacant seats.

BNP sources said that the parliamentary party would take final decision regarding the nominations. No fresh interviews of the nomination seekers will be held.
