BNP lawmaker contradicts LGRD minister in parliament
During a question-answer session, Dr Rustam Ali Farazi, a lawmaker from Pirojpur, wanted to know when the construction of a road in his constituency will begin.
When the minister replied that the construction work for the Mathbaria-Mirukhali-Bhagibatpur road has already started after the allocation of money, the lawmaker said there is no sign of such work in reality.
Dr Farazi said, "The road is under my constituency, but it is unfortunate that despite the fund allocation as stated by the minister, the work has yet to be started."
The minister then told the lawmaker that Tk 9.50 crore has been released recently for the work and assured that he would inquire into the matter to find out why the work has not started yet.
In the hour-long question-answer session, the LGRD minister alone responded to a volley of questions from the lawmakers who demanded that new roads and bridges be constructed in their constituencies.
In reply to most questions, Abdul Mannan Buiyan said he would try to meet the demands.
BNP lawmaker Nazimuddin Alam said, "The government has only one year before the next general election and if we fail to fulfil our electoral pledges by this time, we will not be able to approach the voters again."
He demanded that a special project be taken to complete the construction of roads and bridges in different parts of the country.
