The budget did not reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people as the government has only imposed taxes through this budget, said BDB General Secretary Maj. (retd.) Abdul Manna at the rally held in front of the Matsya Bhabhan at Segunbagicha in the city.

Criticising the earmarking of over Tk 7000 crore in block allocation, he said the government has allocated maximum amount for those sectors where there are much scope for corruption.

He also warned that if the BNP-Jamaat alliance continues to resort to repressive measures on the opposition leaders and activists, tougher movement will be launched against the government.

Tarikat Federation General Secretary Maulana Zakir Hossain, Oikya Mancha leader Abdur Rauf, BDB leader MA Hanif, Kamrul Hasan of Jatiya Chhatra Dhara and Khan Siddiqur Rahman of Jubo Gono Forum also spoke.

Later, they took out a procession in Kakrail area.
