Cabinet body okays Tk 280cr purchase under six projects

The Cabinet Committee on Purchase yesterday approved a Rural Electrification Board (REB) proposal to purchase electrical equipment worth over Tk 100 crore under a Korean soft loan for the second phase expansion of REB distribution lines.

The committee at a meeting with Finance and Planning Minister M Saifur Rahman in the chair also approved Tk 180-crore purchase for five other projects.

A meeting source said South Korea will provide a soft loan of $20 million from its Economic Development Co-operation Fund (EDCF) for the expansion of REB distribution lines.

The committee okayed the Tk 24.68-crore consultation agreement with German company Fichtner for the coal-based power plant at Barapukuria, selection of contractors for constructing a new bridge on the river Surma at Kazirbazar in Sylhet for Tk 35.84 crore, procurement of 11,500 tonnes of paper worth about Tk 77.95 crore and selection of consultants for the Road Sector Reform Project for Tk 32.48 crore.

The meeting also approved Tk 10-crore modernisation project for Zia International Airport.
