Cable operators seek govt intervention

Such competition among the distributors is harming the interest of the subscribers who are not receiving all the channels, especially the most-watched ones, which they are paying for.

To settle the issue, the Cable Operators' Association of Bangladesh (Coab) yesterday sought the government's intervention so that the distributors agree to provide the channels they download for all the operators.

"We've become mere puppets at the hands of the distributors. Our members have nothing to do but act according to their wishes as no single distributor provide all the pay channels," said Coab President SM Anwar Parvez.

He said some distributors are providing the pay channels on condition that the cable operators will not transmit some specific channels.

At present, Nationwide Communications, MGH Group, Total Sports and Translinks are providing the pay channels.

The Coab leaders also urged the government to cancel licences of those who are continuing to download the 13 channels that the government banned on July 24.
