Caravan for Justice starts journey

People's Caravan for Justice and Sovereignty 2005 started its journey for Hong Kong yesterday as elsewhere in Asia with an aim to establishing justice and people's sovereignty and protesting the WTO Ministerial meeting.

The journey started to mark the International Day for Poverty Eradication and will meet other countries of Asia in December on the WTO Hong Kong ministerial premises.

Speakers at the inaugural session at the National Press Club in the city said the WTO and TNC (Trans-National Companies) aimed at de-industrialise the developing countries by plundering the resources and making them captive markets.

They expressed concern over globalisation in the name of 'Free Trade' disenfranchising the people of Less Developed Countries (LDCs) in decision-making and displacing them of their culture, indigenous knowledge system and dignity.

They urged the civil society to take part in the movement against the WTO regime to save the oppressed nations of the world.

Khadda Sharbovoumo Network, Khadda Sharbovoumo Gono Aliance and Noyakrishi Andalon jointly organised the programme.

Taraman Bibi Bir Pratik inaugurated the movement and Professor Abdur Razzak, MP was present as chief guest.

Suranjit Sengupta MP and Professor Alauddin MP addressed the programme as special guests.
