CHT census indicators to enhance dev work launched

The publication was prepared under the joint collaboration with LGED and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) Nepal.

CHT affairs Secretary M Ibrahim Hossain formally inaugurated the publications yesterday as chief guest at a seminar organised by the LGED at RDEC Bhaban in the city.

Ibrahim said the CHT census indicators map would be working as a planning tool for designing future interventions to bring further development for benefiting the people of the region.

Presided over by the LGED Chief Engineer Shahidul Hassan the function was also addressed by former secretary Quamrul Islam Siddique, Director General of ICIMOD Dr J Gabriel Campbell and Deputy Director General Dr Madhav Karki as special guests.

M Sajjadul Haque of LGED GIS unit, Basanta Shrestha, division head ICIMOD, Nepal and Sushil Pradhan, GIS specialist, ICIMOD, Nepal made different presentations on the report.

The main objective of the study was to prepare demographic, social and economic indicators at the upazila level based on the 2001 population census results, to prepare data on gender and basic information on tribal population, public health and sanitation.

The study also prepared a printed atlas of the maps complemented by an interactive CD-ROM containing all the human development indicators in the form of maps together with simple Geographic Information System (GIS) functionalities that allow the user to browse and query.
