Cleaner dies while fleeing

Md Babul, 30, cleaner of Hotel Punam, slipped and fell from the roof while he was trying to cross onto a neighbouring hotel and the extended rods of an under-construction building pierced his body, police said.

Acting on a tip off that unsocial activities are going on, Rab surrounded the hotel prompting the boarders to run helter-skelter. Many managed to pass onto the neighbouring building through a covert path, but Babul slipped off and met a brutal death.

Babul, who hails from Narayanganj, joined the hotel around three months ago, the hotel management said.

Police arrested 26 people, most of whom are women from the scene.

Meanwhile, police sent the body to Dhaka medical College Hospital for autopsy.
