College girl tries to commit suicide, now in coma

The girl, 21, is a student of Daulatpur Government BL University College. She made an attempt to commit suicide by taking sleeping pills after being frequently tormented by a group of criminals at Pabla ward under Daulatpur Police Station.

Doctors at KMCH yesterday said that her life is at stake. Sources said, three criminals of the locality demanded toll from contractor Abul Kalam Azad last month. He lodged an FIR with Daulatpur Police Station against those three extortionists.

Police arrested the culprits but later let them off as they were BNP activists.

On August 25, the criminals attacked the house of Azad and assaulted the girl. As she started screaming, some neighbours rescued her. But the criminals, while fleeing away, threatened to kidnap her at any cost.

Being frequently tormented by the criminals, the college girl made an attempt to commit suicide.

Azad alleged that these criminals who are roaming at large are threatening to kill him if the case filed against them is not withdrawn.

OC Mashiur Rahman said that the accused are absconding.

It may be mentioned here that a school girl named Rumi committed suicide in her residence also at Pabla ward on April 14 in 2004 after being frequently irritated by some eve teasers.
