Come forward to resist plots to rig polls

He also said, "We talk about reforms in caretaker system of government and electoral laws, but we rarely recognise that the common people have a role to play to ensure free and fair election".

Encouraging the people to come forward to spoil all conspiracy against the democracy, he said common people far outnumber and outweigh the strength of a handful of officials of administration and law enforcement agencies.

JP (Manju) President was speaking at the opening session of its 'Organisational Week' organised by City unit JP at its Lalmatia office in the city.

In the first day of the week, a number of leaders and activists from different political parties and organisations joined JP (Manju). The frontline leaders of Bangladesh Majlum Party joined JP (Manju) dissolving their own party yesterday.

JP (Manju) president welcomed the newcomers who "joined the party to build a prosperous Bangladesh through their devoted politics".

Referring to the oppressive measures on its leaders and activists from any quarters, he said, "We do not believe in retaliation, but we would not tolerate any repression on us".

Regarding the formation of alliance in the election, JP (Manju) Secretary General Sheikh Shahidul Islam said, "If we find any political party having similarity with our ideology and programmes, we would think of alliance, otherwise we would adopt 'go alone policy'".

JP Member Secretary Mafizul Huq Babu chaired the programme while Presidium Members Col (Retd) Abdul Latif Mallik, Amena Bari, Additional Secretary General Sadek Siddique, Vice Chairmen Abu Sayed Khan and Sheikh Muhammad Joinul Abedin also spoke on the occasion.
