Construction of deep-sea port, 3rd Karnaphuli Bridge soon

The construction of the deep-sea port and the 3rd Karnaphuli Bridge will start soon, State Minister for Communications Salahuddin Ahmed MP said on Wednesday.

He was speaking at a discussion on "Development of Chittagong: Expectations of the local people and the role of the people's representatives" organised by the Chittagong Journalists' Forum, Dhaka (CJFD) at a city hotel.

Speaking at the function former minister and noted politician Engineer Mosharraf Hossain said there might be a difference of opinion but the political leaders of greater Chittagong were unanimous about the development of the area. He said "if we work unitedly the development of Chittagong would be expedited".

CJFD President Md Mostafa Kamal presided over the function. General secretary of the organisation Enamul Huq gave the address of welcome while joint general secretary M Saim Tipu moderated it.

Salahuddin said though it was not up to the expectations, Chittagong has seen considerable development in the recent times. He said work for four-lane Dhaka-Chittagong Highway was going on in full swing.

Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) president Shafiqul Karim Sabu, former news editor of BSS Aminul Islam Bedu, CJFD founder president Enamul Hoque Chowdhury, former president Anis Alamgir, founder general secretary Shahin-ul Islam Chowdhury also spoke.

Former Managing Director of BSS DP Barua, vice president of the Jatiya Press Club and AP Bureau chief Farid Hossain, Chittagong Samity acting president Abu Alam Chowdhury, its former general secretary and Rajuk chief engineer Emdadul Islam, CJFD former presidents M Wahidullah and Mesbahuddin Zongi, its advisor and noted painter Sabih-ul alam were present.
