Consumers lay siege to Ctg PDB office

The Consumer Rights Protection Committee yesterday laid a siege to Bidyut Bhaban, office of the Power Development Board, protesting power crisis in the port city.

Hundreds of people from all strata joined the three-hour programme from 10:00am to protest the unbearable load-shedding in Chittagong.

The committee held a brief rally on the Bidyut Bhaban premises and demanded immediate steps to end the power crisis. They also threatened to go for tougher movement if their demand is not met.

The rally was addressed, among others, by the Committee Chairman Khorshed Alam Sujan, Shahriar Khaled, Momena Akhtar Nayan, Swapan Sen, Md Alamgir, HM Sohel, Jasmina Khanam and Debashish Pal.

The speakers said when the city dwellers are suffering immensely from the shortage of electricity, the market owners are aggravating the situation by lighting their malls.

At one stage, PDB Chief Engineer Kazi Bashiruddin Ahmed came down from his office and assured the agitators of taking necessary steps. After the assurance, the protesters withdrew their siege.
