Contractor, his family flee home in Kushtia

As contractor Motiur Rahman Rabbi submitted tender for construction of 25 schools and an education office building under an LGED project, Kushtia-1 lawmaker Bachchu Mollah and his younger brother Shamim Mollah became hostile to him, he said at a press conference at the National Press Club in the capital yesterday.

"Bachchu Mollah and Shamim Mollah ordered me to withdraw my tender on May 9 but I refused. After a few minutes the lawmaker threatened me over cellphone saying that it would not be good for my family if I do not withdraw the tender," said the contractor.

On May 10, a general diary (GD) against Motiur was filed with Doulatpur Police Station and it was followed by eleven other GDs on May 11, he said, adding, "Doulatpur Officer-in-Charge Abdul Hai also threatened me of arrest if I did not withdraw my tender."

Bachchu's brother Shamim Mollah and his cadres also forcibly drove out Motiur's wife and daughter from their house on May 18 and they could not return there fearful of police and BNP cadres, he added.

"Now I am helpless, I filed a case against Bachchu and Shamim on May 28 but law enforcers have remained indifferent on orders of Bachchu."

BNP cadres killed a contractor and badly injured several others in last two years, he said.

He appealed to the prime minister and the LGRD minister for necessary security measures.
