Controversially appointed RU employees stage demonstrations
Demanding immediate confirmation of their jobs, the 544 employees also threatened to resist all appointments and launch a tougher agitation programme if the demand goes unheeded.
They also staged a one-hour sit-in in front of administrative building and took out a procession on the campus to press home their demand.
At a protest meeting, the employees called on the authorities not to take any step for more appointments without confirming their jobs.
Oikya Parishad Convenor Rafiqul Islam Sader presided over the meeting addressed by Rabiul Hossain, Akkas Ali, Zahirul Haque and Farman Ali.
In April last year, the RU authorities appointed 544 third- and fourth-class employees against 255 vacant posts in alleged violation of rules and without giving any advertisement.
The High Court stayed the recruitment following a case filed by a lawyer Abu Aslam.
