Cop mugger remanded for two days

Havilder Nagendranath Mondol of Mirpur Police Station, who was held on Friday for mugging a cattle trader, was remanded for two days yesterday.

Mirpur Police sought for a five-day remand, but after the hearing, the court granted a two-day remand.

Havilder Mondol of Darus Salam Police Box under Mirpur Police Station and two of his accomplices dragged Saidur Rahman, the cattle trader, from a bus in front of the police box at about 10:00am on Friday posing as police detectives.

Then they took him to a rickshaw garage in Pirerbagh, snatched Tk 3 lakh from him and fled the scene.

On information, law enforcers raided the police box and recovered Tk 98,000 from the possession of Mondol. The mugger policeman admitted his crime, saying that he got Tk 1.5 lakh as his share.

Mirpur poilce said Mondol's two accomplices, Abul Kalam Azad and Sumon alias Faruk, could not be tracked down till last night. "We are trying hard to arrest them. If we can arrest them we will be able to recover the rest of the mugged money," they said.
