Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), a New York-based organisation that works to safeguard press freedom worldwide, has expressed its deep concern over death threats to journalists by Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

"The threats are clearly intended to inhibit critical coverage of Islamic militants," said CPJ Executive Director Ann Cooper.

"We urge the authorities concerned to take the warnings seriously and safeguard journalists and others whose lives are in danger."

The CPJ has become alarmed knowing about the JMB threats to kill 22 journalists which have sparked widespread fear among the journalists.
