Ctg Mayor Mohiuddin sent to BSMMU for better treatment
An ambulance carrying the ailing mayor headed out for Dhaka at around 7:10pm yesterday evening, sources said.
Mohiuddin Chowdhury would first be taken to Dhaka Central Jail and then admitted to BSMMU, added the sources.
Earlier in the morning, Prof Dr Manjur Morshed Mahmud, head of the 10-member medical board formed for the mayor's treatment, told the journalists that the mayor's condition has improved significantly following the treatment he had been given since his admission at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Replying to a query, Prof Mahmud said the board believed that transferring the mayor elsewhere would not be necessary since the board is capable of ensuring the best treatment possible.
The detained mayor was brought to CMCH at around 12:30 am on Monday from Bandarban Jail with heart, respiratory and urinary complications.
Meanwhile, a high court bench comprising Justice Khademul Islam Chowdhury and Justice M Ashfaqul Islam in two separate rules yesterday asked the government to show cause as to why Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury would not be granted bails in the two cases filed against him.
The court also fixed May 17 (tomorrow) for the hearing on rules issued following a petition by the mayor.
Supreme Court Senior lawyer Dr. Kamal Hossain moved the petition for the mayor.
