The round table on 'Adulteration: A national problem' was organised by the daily Amar Desh at the National Press Club in the city.
Presenting the keynote paper Rokan Ud Doulah, a magistrate of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, demanded a chemist and a mini laboratory while conducting the drive.
Mentioning about the success of the drive he said people are now more aware than any other time about the food they are taking.
They are also now concerned about food and environment at hotel and restaurant, he added.
Rokan Ud Doulah thanked the media for its assistance saying that it would have not been possible to make the drive a success without the help of the media.
He also mentioned that Tk 53,22,990 was realised in fine and 115 people were jailed in this regard.
Prof Dr ABM Faruque, chairman of medicine technology department of Dhaka University, said as advertisements have immense effect on the viewers, there should be a guideline for advertisement so that the public don't get confused about any product.
He also suggested regular monitoring at upazila level to check food adulteration.
Prof Faruque also appealed to the government to take necessary steps so that the general people can file cases directly in the court against food adulteration.
Bangladesh Communist Party General Secretary Muzahidul Islam Selim said the only way to check food adulteration is to raise awareness among the people.
He also demanded stern punishment to those involved in the production and sale of adulterated food as these are destroying the new generation and the nation.
Information Minister M Shamsul Islam said media has already played an important role in raising awareness about food adulteration.
He also urged the media persons to carry on the campaign against food adulterators.
Dr AZM Jahid Hossein, secretary general of BMA, urged the government to formulate a food and drug administration act to monitor the standard of food and medicine.
Dr Jafarullah Chowdhury, president of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh, said, "We should also check the quality of imported food items."
Workers' Party President Rashed Khan Menon, Gono Forum leader Saifuddin Ahmed Manik, Director of food and nutrition department of Dhaka University Prof Dr Golam Maola, Managing Director of Amar Desh Alhaj Md Hasmat Ali, Senior Reporter of daily Ittefaq Abul Khaer and Advocate Elina Khan also spoke on the occasion.
