Distribution of forms postponed over protest
The activists of PSJ, a conglomerate of left-leaning student bodies, laid a siege to the Agrani bank branches at Fargate, Shahbag and JU. They launched the programme at 9:00am simultaneously on campus and in the capital and prevented the concerned officials from selling the forms while the applicants thronged there to collect forms were baffled and uncertain about admission test at JU.
The agitators vowed to continue their protest until the increased price is reduced. The price of each admission form was Tk 250 last year while this year it is fixed at Tk 300.
JU VC Prof Khandaker Mustahidur Rahman said, "the forms will be distributed in alternative way if the agitators continue the movement." He, however, did not specify the nature of alternative way.
The distribution of admission forms is scheduled to continue till November 17. The university authorities are yet to set any fresh schedule to resume the distribution of admission form.
The written admission test is set to begin from November 30 and finish on December 13. The result of the written admission test will be published in deferent national dailies on January 25, 2006 while the viva-voce examination will be held from February 6 to 8 according to the schedule of the concerned departments. The distribution and submission of admission forms under different quotas will begin on February 6 and continue till February 13. The final result will be put up at the notice board of respective departments on February 13.
Admission of successful candidates from merit list will be held from February 14 to 20 while students, who will be in the waiting list, will get admission from March 5 to 12. The classes of the freshers will begin on April 6.
