Dowry-free mass marriage at Ijtema
A total of 119 couples got married without dowry at the Biswa Ijtema yesterday following the tradition of marriage of Hazrat Ali (R) and Hazrat Fatema (R), an instance meant for strengthening campaigns against the social curse.
Maulana Jobair Hasan conducted the marriage solemnisation during the sermon on the second day of the mammoth Islamic congregation, explaining the urgency of the marriage.
Khurma-khejurs (dry dates) were distributed among several thousand devotees who prayed for happy conjugal life of the newly wed couples. At the time of the marriage ceremony, only bridegrooms were present. There is no provision for the presence of bride at this ceremony.
