DU authorities ignore deptt body decision

The Dhaka University (DU) authorities announced fresh date of selection committee meeting of Development Studies Depart-ment's to appoint a professor allegedly ignoring the decision of department's Coordination and Development (C&D) Committee and faculty dean's opinion.

The committee meeting scheduled for yesterday was deferred to March 12.

To appoint a professor on political consideration, the university authorities are ignoring the C&D Committee and Dean's opinion, sources said.

Sources said the department advertised for the post about one and half years ago and responding to the advertisement four applied for the post.

C&D Committee decided to re-advertise for the post as those who submitted applications do not have qualifications.

Meanwhile, Dean of Social Science Faculty Prof Dr Harun-or-Rashid issued a letter to the chairman of the department requesting him for re-advertisement for the post.

Vice Chancellor Prof SMA Faiz told the Daily Star that the selection committee meeting was deferred as some members of the committee were not informed.
