Elect neutral, non-partisan man as chief of caretaker govt

As per the constitution, it is the responsibility of the president to elect the chief of caretaker government among the immediate past chief justices who are neutral and non-partisan', he said.

'If he does otherwise, he should be responsible for the ensuing crisis in the country', he warned.

Abdur Razzak was speaking at a rally in the city's Bangabandhu Avenue organised on the occasion of 'Reform Proposal Implementation Day'.

Referring to the ongoing general secretary level dialogue on reform proposal he said, 'We recognise the importance of the dialogue and still we are hopeful about its outcome'. 'But the manner in which top alliance leaders are talking is despairing', he added.

Questioning the intention of top alliance leaders, he said 'Regarding reforms in caretaker government, the prime minister once insisted on placing a proposal formally in the parliament, we did accordingly. Then she pushed us for dialogue and now we are having it. But I see little hope as the PM is yet to decide about the proposal'.

On the issue of Justice KM Hasan he said, 'Our seize programmes would start the very day KM Hasan takes the charge of caretaker government'.

Clarifying AL-led opposition combine's position on the issue of dialogue on reform proposal he said, 'We do not want any confrontation, we want to avoid any sort of crisis in the country'.

Speaking at the programme Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said that today two leaders of BNP-led alliance and 14-party opposition combine would sit once again for an acceptable solution.

'If nothing positive comes out of the dialogue, people would start marching towards the capital with rows and poles', he said.

Pointing to BNP's programme on October 27 to 29 at Dhaka, he said these programmes were taken to resist any AL programme after October 28.

He also said that after October 28 if any quarter provokes confrontation, AL leaders and activists are prepared to face that courageously.

Maya presided over the meeting while Presidium Member Matia Chowdhury, Workers' Party President Rashed Khan Menon, Gono Forum leader Pankaj Bhattacharya, Dilip Barua and other leaders were present.

After the rally leaders and activists of 14-party opposition combine brought out a procession that paraded different streets of the city.
