Ex-PIO Farid killed as train hits him

He was 65.

Farid, who worked long in Information Ministry, retired as additional secretary from Agriculture Ministry in 1999, said family sources.

The accident occurred at about 9:00am at Pragati Sarani rail crossing when Farid, a resident of Uttara, was going to his sister's house at Khilkhet after dropping his daughter to school at Uttara.

Witnesses said the gateman of the rail crossing had lowered the bar several minutes earlier before the train passed through.

Farid's left leg got stuck in between the lines when he tried to cross the rail lines, victim's cousin Dr Wahidul Haq said quoting the witnesses.

Dr Wahidul said the train hit Farid in the head when he was trying his best to remove his leg. He died on the spot.

His body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy.

He left behind his wife, a daughter and a host of relatives, friends and admirers to mourn his death.

Jatiya Press Club President Reazuddin Ahmed and General Secretary Shawkat Mahmud in a statement condoled the death of Farid, an associate member of the club.
