Fake bombs found at Uttara Women's Medical College
The bombs were prepared by wrapping capacitors of electric fan and medicine canisters with adhesive tapes and attaching electric wires to it, police said.
The bombs were wrapped in papers with the letters 'JMB' written on it. The JMB stands for Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, a banned Islamist outfit.
Each pair of bombs were attached to three doors on the first, third and fourth floors, which created a panic among the students, teachers and patients.
College sources said the authorities immediately shifted the patients to safe places. Teachers, students, nurses and other staffs also hurried for cover.
A doctor of the hospital first noticed the bomb-like objects.
On receiving information, different squads of police, Detective Branch (DB) of police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) rushed to the spot at around 9:00am and recovered those.
The duty officer of Airport Police Station said they did not find any explosive substances inside the bomb-like objects. "The small canisters were full of ginger and turmeric."
However, no-one was arrested in this connection.
