Fall of government imminent
The rally was organised by Chittagong unit of 14-party opposition combine at City Gate on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in support of Dhaka Siege programme in the capital.
"This agitation is not for power, but to free the people from the misrule of the government, and none can stop it," said the mayor who is also the general secretary of Chittagong city unit Awami League.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Earlier, the leaders and activists of 14-party alliance gathered in front of AL office at Darul Fazal Market and started for City Gate in a truck procession at about 9:30am.
The programme continued peacefully till 1:30pm.
Chittagong City Awami League President MA Mannan presided over the rally where City AL Joint-Secretary Kazi Inamul Haque Danu, Badiul Alam, MA Rashid, Advocate Ibrahim Hossain Babul, Workers' Party leader ATM Nizam Uddin, NAP leader Santosh Chowdhury, JSD leader Noor Mohammad and Democratic Party leader Swapan Sen spoke.
