Fast-unto-death for job under revenue sector

These employees had been working in the 'Development project for poor women suffering from the lack of food security' for six years. They also did not get their salary of 24 months.

To press their demands, they staged continuous sit-in programme in front of the department office at Eskaton in the city since July 9.

Leaders of Karmakarta-Karmachari Kallyan Parishad, a platform of the officials working under the project, said despite a government order issued on March 2004 and parliamentary standing committee's order at18th and 21st meetings to shift the manpower under the project to revenue sector, nothing substantial has been done so far.

They also said that they went on a fast-unto-death programme in March but suspended it following assurance given by former minister Khurshid Jahan Haque. Although four months have passed since, no progress is seen in this regard, they added.
