Female sweeper killed after rape in city

The victim was identified as Nasima Begum, 40, of Chakbazar branch of the bank.

Nasima, who hailed from Barisal, lived at Devidas Ghat Lane at Lalbagh.

Police arrested Halim Shikdar, a guard of the bank, in this

connection.

But denying his involvement in the incident, Halim told the police that he found injured Nasima inside a latrine of the office.

Md Shaheen, son of Nasima, said his mother had been working in the bank for last three months.

"She went to office at 7.00am, but the guard came to our house at around 9.30am to tell that my mother had fallen sick in the office," he added.

Shaheen, along with his uncle Mithu, rushed to the office and found the body of her mother in a bathroom.

They rushed Nasima to Mitford Hospital where the attending doctor declared her dead.

Morgue sources said there were marks of injuries on her body and they suspected that she was killed after rape.

Police recovered the body at 11.15am from the hospital.

When contacted, the Janata Bank authorities said they have heard that a sweeper at their Chakbazar branch had died of heart attack.

An official had been sent there to investigate the matter, they added.
