A Dhaka court granted bail to five accused in connection with their involvement in currency faking on December 13 although the case was filed under non-bailable section.

Moreover, the case, filed under the Special Powers Act 1974, is triable in the Sessions Courts.

Mohammad Mujibur Rahman, the First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Dhaka granted ad-interim bail to the prime accused as well as the mastermind of making forged notes and his four accomplices.

Of the accused, two gave confessional statements to a magistrate admitting their involvement in making forged notes.

Mohammad Arifuzzaman alias Arif, one of the two accused told the court that they have forged currency-making equipment across the country and they supply those notes home and abroad.

The people who got bail are Sagir Master, owner of the forged notes making factory, Jasmine Ara Hosna, Nasima Begum, Arifuzzaman alias Arif and Mahbub Mullah.

Earlier, the court rejected the written objection of the prosecution.

It created a mixed reaction among the lawyers and they expressed their deep concern over the order of granting bail to such offenders.

Being aggrieved at the bail order, the prosecution is going to file an appeal with the higher court, an officer of the General Recording Office said.

Advocate Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said how a magistrate grants bail to such offenders, who always cheat the people as well as the government. Moreover, they engage themselves in destroying the backbone of a nation, he added.

He said such a bail will courage the offenders to commit offence one after another.

Pallabi police unearthed a money-minting factory at Paris Road in the Benarasi Palli at Pallabi in the city on September 22.

Local and foreign forged notes equivalent to Tk 5.5 lakh, Tk 1.2 lakh worth of original notes, forged currency-making equipment, including computer and scanner, parchment paper, chemicals and powders were seized from the spot.

Police also arrested eight people -- Josna Begum, Jasmine Ara Hosna, Nasima Begum, Sharmin Akhter, Arifuzzaman Arif, Sohel Hossain, Mahbub Mullah and Sheikh Jewel Mullah -- from the spot in this connection.

Police unearthed the forged note making factory when they raided a house in the area to arrest an alleged criminal, Rashed.
