Five killed in road accidents

Our Staff Correspondent Reports: Three people were killed in three separate road accidents and one was injured in the city and in Keraniganj.

The dead are Reazuddin, 57, of TV Gate at Gulshan in the city, Belal Mia, 27, a fruit trader, and an unidentified woman aged about 35.

An unknown vehicle hit Reazuddin, when he was returning home from a nearby mosque after offering Fazr prayer, Reazuddin's son Monir Hossain said.

Monir took critically injured Reazuddin to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead at around 7:00am.

The unidentified woman died on the spot when a running bus struck her at city's Karwan Bazar.

Witnesses said she was crossing the road with her 5-year old daughter in her lap.

The minor girl received serious injuries and was admitted to DMCH in a critical condition. However, none claimed the body of the woman as of yesterday.

Fruit trader Belal was found dead at Ramerkandha of Keraniganj in the early hours of yesterday.

Locals said he died in a road accident at around 1:00am.

Our correspondent in Gaibandha reports: Two persons were killed and seven others injured when a speeding truck rammed a motorcycle and then crashed into a roadside shop on Gaibandha-Nakaihat road yesterday.

Saidur Rahman, 25, and Azad Hossain, 28, who were riding the motorcycle, died on the spot.

After hitting the two-wheeler, the Gaibandha-bound truck sped away but crashed into a roadside shop at Godown Bazar, leaving seven people injured.

Police sent the bodies to morgue for autopsy. A case was filed with Palashbari Police Station.
