Five killed in road accidents

Our Correspondent from Chittagong adds: Three people were killed and seven others injured in a road accident at Hathajari upazila in the district yesterday.

The victims were identified as Nurul Alam, 65, son of late Noa Mia, his wife Bachuni Begum, 45, and Nur Uddin, 20, son of Md. Rafiq - all hail from Charia village under Mirzapur union of the upazila.

The victims along with seven others were carrying puffed rice for sale in the city markets when they fell victim to the accident, sources said.

The accident occurred when a Chittagong-bound mini-truck from Muhurihat of Mirzapur skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch at Alaol Dighirpar near Chittagong University Gate No. 2 at 6:00am leaving three people dead on the spot and seven others injured.

The accident occurred when the driver lost control over the steering wheels.

Three of the injured were rushed to Hathajari Thana Health Complex while the rest were released after first aid, said the sources.

Meanwhile, one youth was killed on the spot when a Chittagong-bound truck ran over him on Chittagong-Cox's Bazar Road at Moizzyertek under Karnaphuli Police Station yesterday.

The dead was identified as Farid Uddin, son of Nurul Alam of Chaturi in Anwara upazila.

Our Correspondent from Tangail reports: A young man was killed and two others were seriously injured in a road accident on Tangail Town Bypass Road on Wednesday night.

The victim was identified as Mohammad Sagar Miah, 30, of Kalihati upazila in the district.

Police and witnesses said the accident took place when a Dhaka-bound speedy passenger bus from North Bengal hit a motorcycle from behind on Tangail Town Bypass Road at Rabna area under Sadar upazila at around 9:00pm, leaving three motorcycle riders seriously injured.

Locals rushed the injured to Tangail General Hospital in critical condition where the on-duty doctors declared Sagar Miah dead.

Another was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
