Foreign salt seized

Bangladesh Navy Ship Dhansiri during its routine patrol in the coastal area on Monday seized five mechanised wooden body cargo boats from the Sandwip channel and recovered one thousand tons of foreign salt worth about Tk 50 lakh brought into the country illegally, says an ISPR press release yesterday.

They also arrested 46 smugglers from the boats during the operation carried out in cooperation with anti-smuggling cell of the Navy. Present market price of the seized boats is about Tk 2.30 crore. The boats included MB Monnan, MB Redwan, MB Jainal, MB Azad and MB Ismatullah Shah.

The seized salt was later deposited to the concerned authorities and the arrested persons were handed over to the police.
