Four injured as cops shotgun discharged accidentally
The incident took place at around 11:45am when the police constable Azhar and two others tried to stop a scuffle between staffs of two buses.
The injured were identified as Maria Akter Shabnur, 7, and her sister Sharmin Akter Swarna, 11, Mohammed Russell, 26, a pedestrian, and Yusuf Ali, 50, a fruit vendor. All of them received injuries in their legs. They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) but released after treatment.
Salma Begum, mother of Shabnur and Swarna, told The Daily Star, "We saw the policemen trying to stop a quarrel between some people in front of Rampura kitchen market. As we were getting on a rickshaw, we heard a loud sound and then saw the legs of my two daughters bleeding."
They came to Rampura from Tongi Board Bazaar area for the treatment of Swarna, she said.
When contacted, Khilgaon police said three police constables went to the spot to stop a quarrel between some bus staffs, but a shotgun of the constable was discharged accidentally.
