Prime Minister Khaleda Zia yesterday urged the teachers to sincerely teach their students in classes to make the government's education sector programmes successful.

She made the call when the representatives of primary school teachers met her to express their gratitude for the government's efforts and policies to expand education and ensure welfare of the teachers.

Khaleda said her government gave, like her previous regime, top priority to education, especially primary education, to ensure education for all children.

She said emphasis has to be given on English from the primary level considering its importance. "The present government has made arrangements for the training of teachers to this end," she said.

Khaleda urged the teachers to inspire the guardians to send their kids to school informing them about the scopes and facilities given by the government for education.

As the teachers mentioned about discrimination in their salaries, she told them that the matter is being examined by the government.

The teachers' representatives include Prof Abul Kalam Azad, Kazi Fazlul Huq, Nurul Azim, Mohamamd Nuruzzaman, BM Abdullah, Jahanara Begum and Monwara Begum.
