Awami League General Secretary Abdul Jalil yesterday criticised the BNP-Jamaat coalition government for its failure to improve law and order situation in the country.

"The alliance government has made life insecure. The country's independence has been threatened by bomb explosions," Jalil told a protest rally at Muktanan in the city.

Bangladesh Mahila Awami League, women's front of the opposition Awami League, organised the rally protesting the countrywide serial bomb blasts and price hike of fuel and essentials.

AL leaders Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Obaidul Kader, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Nazma Rahman, Shahara Katun and MA Karim spoke at the rally.

Mahila AL President Asrafunessa Mosharraf presided.

Jalil said the government is trying to make the country a fundamentalist state by spoiling the non-communal spirit.

He was critical of Prime Minister's speech in the Parliament saying that Khaleda actually wanted to protect the real criminals involved in the August 17 serial bomb blasts.

"We will oust the government through a massive movement and establish a people's government and rule of law through an election under a neutral caretaker government," he said.

Sajeda Chowdhury said that Nizami and his party's Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid wanted to eliminate pro-liberation forces through bomb blasts.
