Govt trying to save killers of Bangabandhu
The anti-liberation forces killed Bangabandhu to destroy democracy and the spirit of the War of Liberation, they said.
The leaders also said if the AL-led opposition combine is voted to power, they would execute the verdict first to foil the evil designs of the conspirators.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. The AL leaders were speaking at a token hunger strike programme the Awami Swechchhasebak League organised at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital to press its demand for immediate execution of the verdict.
AL presidium member Zillur Rahman said the main reason for killing Bangabandhu was to turn the country into a new Pakistan and that the conspiracy is still going on.
But the conspirators would not be successful as long as even one pro-liberation person is alive, he warned.
AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil said people have been deprived of justice since the four-party alliance government has taken over.
Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzak, Suranjit Sengupta, Motia Chowdhury, Obaidul Quader, Mukul Bose, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Hasanul Haque Inu, Ramedu Majumder, Prof Durgadas Bhattacharya and Altaf Mahmud also spoke.
