'Groom children to face challenges of globalisation'

"It's time to groom the children so that they can prove their worth in facing the challenges of globalisation," he said while addressing the prize distribution ceremony of 'Shapla Kuri 2005' here yesterday.

Zia Shishu Academy organised the function at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.

"Every child has immense prospect and potential, and we've to make available all the facilities for them so that they can flourish their dormant talents," he said stressing the need for ensuring children's rights.

Recalling the contributions of the senior scholars, Iajuddin said, "There was a time when brilliant people used to come from rural areas, now the scenario has changed and the meritorious people scattered in remote areas can hardly come into the limelight."

He laid emphasis on finding out talented people from rural areas for overall flourishing of their merits, and called on all children and cultural organisations to come up to guide the children to practise healthy culture.

Apart from study and involvement in cultural activities, there is a need for flourishing the sense of pragmatism and social values among the children like the spirit of nationalism, patriotism, honesty, discipline, mutual respect, serving the distressed people and tolerance, he said.

Health Minister Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain presided over the function.
