Hartal observed at Ullapara
A half-day hartal was observed peacefully at Ullapara in Sirajganj yesterday in protest against the killing of Awami League leader Saiful Islam.
Saiful Islam, 40, vice-president of Ullapara upazila AL and chairman of Mohanpur union parishad, was shot dead by the members of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) at Lahiri-Mohonpur Railway Station on Tuesday evening.
During the hartal, enforced by the Ullapara upazila AL, all modes of vehicles were off the roads and shops, educational institutions and private establishments remained closed.

Meanwhile, Ullapara police arrested one Abdus Sobhan, 35, at Lahiripara village yesterday on charge of his involvement in the killing.
