Opposition leader Sheikh Hasina yesterday in a statement condemned the Companiganj violence where five people were killed and over 100 injured by police fire on Thursday in Noakhali.

She demanded trial of those responsible of the incident and compensation for the victims.

"BNP-Jamaat coalition government has no sympathy for the people as they were against the liberation war. The main objective of these two parties is to kill people and destroy everything," she said.

She alleged that the alliance government is destroying all the institutions in a planned way so that any democratically elected government in future face trouble in running the country.

The Awami League President reiterated her party's resolve to establish people's right by ousting the government through mass movement as people's welfare cannot be possible under this "failed" government's rule.

Hasina was critical of the alliance government for what she said extra-judicial killing, violation of human rights, price hike of essentials, bomb and grenade attacks, breakdown of law and order and patronage to terrorists and militants.

Moudud shocked
Bss adds, Law Minister Moudud Ahmed yesterday expressed his deep shock at the deaths of five people in Thursday's incidents at Companiganj in Noakhali.

In a statement from Ghana, Moudud said a proper inquiry into the robbery and subsequent incidents will be done, and instruction has been given to bring the criminals to book.

He urged the people of the area to cooperate with the administration and not to take law in their hands.

He prayed for peace of the departed souls and early recovery of the injured.

Moudud is now in Ghana to attend a conference of law ministers of the Commonwealth countries.
