Hasina protests attacks on AL activists

In a press statement, she alleged that the BNP 'terrorists' launched indiscriminate attacks in Ulania, Chikni Kandi, Dakua and Gozalia unions, vandalising Awami League office and looting over 100 houses and shops after the defeat of four-party candidate in Galachipa municipality election on April 16.

Since April 22, Hasina said, the BNP hoodlums equipped with deadly weapons have attacked Awami League workers and damaged their houses and businesses.

But the police, instead of arresting the attackers, picked up newly elected Galachipa municipal commissioner and Awami League leader Abul Bashar and injured Juba League worker Nasir, she said, adding that the police also refused to register cases.

The AL president urged the administration and the police to act impartially, instead of being used as associates of BNP. She cautioned that the consequence of 'partisan role of the police' would not be good in future.
