Hasina seeks continued Canadian assistance

She made the remarks when outgoing Canadian High Commissioner David Sproule made a farewell call on her at Sudha Sadan in the city.

Hasina, also Awami League president, thanked the Canadian envoy for his contribution to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting they also exchanged views on electoral system in Bangladesh.

After the meeting Hasina's political secretary Saber Hossain Chowdhury told the journalists that next general elections were very critical for Bangladesh's democracy and development.

He said Awami League's reform proposals about caretaker government and Election Commission are not for AL's interests but for ensuring people's voting rights and credible elections.

Party general secretary Abdul Jalil MP, Sheikh Selim MP and Syed Abul Hossain MP were also present.
