Hearing on bail prayer of chief whip's son held

After hearing both the prosecution and the defence, Judge Mohammad Momin Ullah of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court did not pass any order on the issue till writing of the report at 7:30pm.

The defence lawyers filed the criminal appeal with the Sessions Judge's court against the rejection order of the lower court on July 2.

Earlier, lower courts rejected Paban's bail petitions thrice saying that the charges brought against him were primarily proved. Moreover, Paban's accomplice Zahirul Islam Robin confessed to a magistrate that he and Paban were involved with an organised carjacking ring.

Moving the bail petition, the defence lawyers yesterday told the court that their client was implicated in the case to harass him politically. Their client bought the car from one Zahirul Haq Robin, another arrestee but Paban was implicated in the incident as part of a conspiracy. Moreover, their client's name was not mentioned in the FIR (first information report), the lawyers said.

Opposing the submission on the bail petition by the defence lawyers, the prosecution told the court that Paban was directly involved in the incident as he was arrested by Detective Branch (DB) of police at Bailey Road with a stolen Toyota Premio on June 7.

Three criminals hijacked the vehicle from the owner at Motijheel in the city at gunpoint on October 13 last year.
