Physician and Chief Scientist of Allergy Asthma Environmental Research and Skin Care Institute (AAERSCI) MA Hasan has developed DQX Combi Gel, a combination of drugs like anthraquinone and viricidal of plant origin.

At a press conference at the National Press Club yesterday, Dr Hasan said the drug is to be used by female partner before sexual intercourse.

"It can ensure more than 50 percent protection when used along with other barrier like cervical cap or diaphragm. With condom, it would provide almost 90 percent protection," he said.

As most of the men are unwilling to use condom, the DQX Combi Gel would be helpful for women, he added.

Project Coordinator of Gonoshasthya Kendra Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury said as the disease spreads largely through sex workers, they must be properly informed and motivated to fight the disease.

Dermatosurgery Specialist Dr Zakiah Mahfuza Hasan and Major General (Retd.) Abul Hossain were present at the press conference.
