Workers Party of Bangladesh in a statement yesterday termed the Hong Kong Declaration adopted recently by the WTO members as the 'document of deception' for the poor people of the world.

They demanded the resignation of Commerce Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury for signing the frustrating document against the national interest of the Bangladesh.

The WTO ministerial meeting pushed Bangladesh towards an adverse state in the global business as the representatives of the government failed to carry out the commitment of a duty free access of readymade garments in the United States.

As a consequence the garment industry will be collapsed and about 10 lakhs women workers will lose their jobs.

Moreover the country had lost the earlier advantage of duty free access of leather and leather goods to Japan.

Criticising the outcome of the meeting regarding agricultural subsidies, the statement also said the farmers of Bangladesh would be deprived of the fair price of agricultural products.

On the other hand, a handful of multinational companies of the developed countries would yield profit as a result of the decision taken regarding the non-agricultural products and thus countries like Bangladesh would be penalised.
