Hospital ransacked in Gaibandha

The dead were identified as Marufa Akhter Mou, 5, daughter of Manik Miah, and Takia Khatun, 6, daughter of Hajrat Ali Munsi.

Police and local sources said the girls fell into a pond near their house while they were playing on its bank at about 12:00noon.

Locals rescued them and rushed to the hospital at about 1:00pm. But there were no doctors to attend the victims until 2:00pm, the protestors said.

"Outraged by the irresponsibility of the doctors, the agitated people ransacked the hospital, creating panic among the patients and disrupting the health service," said a witness.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

The mob was angered by the "irresponsibility" on part of the doctors though the girls might have died before being taken to the hospital, the sources said.
